Traditional Seekers - Entering Grades 3-5
A great introduction to the overnight camp experience. Living in single-gender cabins, campers get a taste of all that camp has to offer, including the swimming pool, arts and crafts center, rope-climbing elements, the Marine Salmon Center and much more. Campers also enjoy an out-of-cabin overnight adventure under the stars.

Traditional Explorers - Entering Grades 5-8
Explorers focus on team-building and developing confidence and competence around camp in singlegender units. Taking the next step as Orkila campers, Explorers take on more advanced rope activities, and repeat some of their favorite games and activities. For their out-of-cabin experience, campers embark on an overnight trip to Twin Lakes, Satellite Island, or Sucia Island.

Traditional Challengers - Entering Grades 8-10
Challengers join camp's two oldest mixed-gender units (while still living in single-gender cabins). They enjoy age-appropriate challenges and develop independent skills. Challengers select their activities during open recreation periods as well as a week-long skills-focused set of clinics. They enjoy 24 hours on Satellite Island or at Twin Lakes for their out-of-cabin experience.

Horsemasters
Entering Grades 6-9. Horsemasters focuses on individualized riding plans and have group lessons tailored to the skill level of each camper. In the Horsemaster unit, campers meet and get to know one specific horse that they will ride and care for throughout the session. Campers still have the opportunity to participate in traditional camp related activities, such as swimming in the pool and attending campfires. The number of participants in each session is limited to strengthen the level of interactive instruction.

Horsemaster Leadership
Entering grades 9-11. The Horsemaster Leadership program is for campers of all skill levels who are interested in honing their horsemanship skills while also developing their leadership skills. Opportunities to develop these skills include workshops, service projects and active leadership tasks with younger campers. Horsemanship skills are developed through daily riding lessons and workshops in relation to horse care, tack maintenance, and barn management.

Skateboard
Entering Grades 7-9. Strap on your pads, grab your helmet, and ride the premier skateboard park of the Northwest! Whether you are an experienced skater or just learning, this program is for you. Well-trained, experienced Orkila staff offer guidance and coaching. A portion of the day will be spent participating in traditional in-camp activities such as swimming, arts and crafts or archery while the other half of the day will be spent at the skate park. A helmet and other safety equipment are mandatory for this program. This is an interactive program and size is very limited.

BMX
Entering grades 7-9. Ride, play games and learn new skills for half of the day on Orkila’s BMX track. For the remainder of the day, participate in traditional camp activities, like gaga ball, capture the flag and high ropes. This program is open to all skill levels; whether you have ridden BMX before or not, if you love adrenalin, biking, games and having fun this program will be a great fit. *Bikes and helmets will be provided by Camp Orkila. Participants can bring own elbow pads, or choose to use Orkila’s.

Ultimate Frisbee
Entering grades 7-9. Learn or hone your skills during this fun week at Orkila that specializes in the exciting sport of Ultimate Frisbee! Spend half the day receiving coaching from trained instructors, engaging in drills, and playing intramural matches. While we focus on Frisbee, participants also have time to enjoy the same activities they love about traditional!

Digital Media
Entering grades 7-9. Digital Media is an enriching new program using the Orkila arts & crafts facility and our natural camp surroundings. Campers make multiple creations, often with natural elements. Digital photography is integrated into the curriculum.

Fishing Camp
Entering grades 7-9. Learn introductory and intermediate angling skills while fishing at some of Washington’s premiere mountain lakes. Stay at Camp Orkila’s Twin Lakes property at the base of Mt. Constitution and fish for rainbow and cutthroat trout on Twin, Mountain and Cascade lakes.

Marine Biology
Entering grades 6-8. Explore the many wonders of the marine world surrounding us! This program is based at Camp Orkila's Marine Salmon Center where, as aspiring marine biologists, campers will be immersed in marine ecology, oceanography, and conservation of the natural world. Traditional camp activities will be balanced with the marine biology program. Campers have an in-depth, hands-on experience with the marine world.

High Altitude Leadership
Entering grades 7-9. High Altitude Leadership campers go deeper with challenge course elements by learning basic knot-tying, belaying, and facilitation under supervision of the Adventure Team. The climbing tower and zipline add extra adrenaline!

Kayaking
Explore the San Juan Islands in our one-, two- and three-week expeditions. Learn about your environment, your boats, your group and yourself. San Juan Kayaking is for those entering grades 8-12 (not all grades offered all sessions). San Juan Kayaking 2.0 is for those entering grades 9-12 and Islanders is for those entering grades 10-12 (application required).

Sailing
Grab the tiller, harness the wind, explore the San Juans and build new friendships on our one and two week sailing expeditions. San Juan Sailing is for those entering grades 8-10. Mariners is for those entering grades 9-12.

Horsemaster Leadership
Entering grades 9-11. The Horsemaster Leadership program is for campers of all skill levels who are interested in honing their horsemanship skills while also developing their leadership skills. Leadership Development Institute (LDI)
Entering grades 9-11. LDI is a two-week program that focuses on developing leadership skills in young adults. Participants will facilitate camper activities, engage in teambuilding initiatives, orchestrate a service project and explore the San Juan Islands, on a five day kayak, biking or sailing trip. Come develop invaluable skills, take on new responsibilities and make lasting friendships this summer. This is a popular program.

LDI 2.0
Entering grades 10-12. This three-week summer program focuses on environmental education and community leadership. For the first two weeks, participants explore group development, service learning and environmental education – both at Camp Orkila and on a week-long kayak trip. During the final week, the team returns to camp to apply this understanding of community and environmental leadership by teaching games and instructing classes in a traditional camp setting.

Counselor in Training (CIT) (Entering Grades 11-12)
Take the first step towards becoming a cabin counselor! Participants focus on team-building, leadership skills and counseling techniques. Participants begin with training and then work with a group of campers as they develop new skills, build strong relationships, and have an unforgettable summer. This session does not guarantee a future counselor position. For more information, visit OrkilaCIT.org. Application and interview required.

Volunteer Internships
Our internship program is a unique, multi-faceted leadership experience that prepares teens for future positions of responsibility. Girls LEAD: Lead, Empower, Adventure, Discover
Formerly known as PCAL - Entering Grades 7-9. Each girl finds her voice and explores who she is as a leader in this girl-centered camp experience. Through outdoor adventures and enriching workshops, girls make new friends and challenge themselves. From BMX biking to salsa dancing and hiking, girls move their bodies and stretch past what they thought possible. They develop leadership skills and plan service projects wit hthe support of fellow campers and staff. When girls finish this adventure, they know that the confidence, strength and friendships they've developed will help them meet any challenge that comes their way.
